Wedding Nights, Radio Flyers and Photo Shoots....

So fairly recently (all the days are running together now) Jer and I got our wedding night accommodations. We almost did a hotel or B&B but right at the end there we discovered (or I should say rediscovered) VRBO and found something really cool for like less than half of what we were looking at paying elsewhere. Wooo Hoo!

Drumroll please.....

I give you.....

Question: Bridesmaids Luncheon?

Will you all be able to make this the afternoon of Thursday, May 28th or the morning of Friday the 29th? I know that hectic work schedules might even make it hard to get to the rehearsal Friday afternoon but I was hoping to do something special for you guys and wanted to check and make sure that it was even a possibility? Let me know if you can or can't in the comment box......

Hair Raising!

So, I found an idea for my hair that I absolutely fell in love with. This is the positively divine wedding of Liesel and Jeremy done by La Vie Photography.... Lily of the Valley in the hair... With that simple drop veil, so pretty and romantic... I love it!

The moms and guys are walking down to "I will"

The girls to "Blackbird"

I am walking down to "Here, There and Everywhere"

Our Recessional is "All you need is Love"

Then when the guests walk over to the cocktails they will be greeted by "Octopus's Garden"

And we'll join then after pictures and be announced with "Silly Love Songs"

Oiy Candy.

So the candy buffet, it's definitely not neccessary, but it's always fun, sharing the candy you love with ones you love......

So anyway I came up with an idea that we might use. A candy buffet with movie candies. I love the movies and so does Jer. The "concession stand" if you will should be fairly easy to pull off just by getting some popcorn and your typical sweets (favorites pictured above) with a couple I just really want there (like violet candies and turkish delights) because well I do. Call me Veruca Salt if you want...............

I don't care.

The Spot

The Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History

Why We love it: I used to run around here as a kid and Jerry and I have always had a great time when we go over there.

Why it's green: eliminating on transportation between the ceremony and the reception and the site fee going towards local environmental education.

Here's one way it was set up for a very large wedding, but ours is far smaller.

The light streaming through them in the afternoon is so beautiful. In fact I love the way this wedding turned out, I was really wanting to have ferns down the aisle like this and a little bit of white flower petals, so seeing this really struck me as being the look we want.

Check out the SBNHM wedding of Alison & George on santabarbarawedding.com

a (clearly) great resource for Santa Barbara brides.

This is the Broder building where we'll have the cocktail hour. The music will be light Jazz so as to not upset the monks.

here it is later from the other side. I friggen love lanterns, don't you?

Dinner and Dancing inside... It's a big room with hard wood floors so it should work great..

DI-Why Me?

Before the postponement I kinda sorta had DIY invitations.

I took this Crane invite and added from there.

I'm have to say glad we used Crane's.....

They are recycled from mens cotton underwear during the manufacturing process (the hole that they punch for the opening)

kinda dirty, huh? ;) Oh that and they print all our money. Crane's is an old school kind of company, so when I began planning, I came across this information in a strange way........

Actual conversation (as much as I can remember it) of a little old lady (LOL) at local invite shop and I discussing recycled wedding stationary:

ME: Do you have recycled wedding invitations?
LOL: What do you mean?
ME: Well at least 60% post consumer recycled stock... I was thinking
LOL:
Oh well, all paper is recycled now.
ME: Um, I'm not sure about that.
LOL: (getting annoyed) well maybe not but well, what exactly do you need?
ME: I just want something that doesn't cause a big impact on the earth... I heard Lotka paper was good because there is no use of trees...
LOL: So you don't want to use trees then?
ME: Yes, exactly.
LOL: Oh well then Crane's is what you want, they're made from cotton. Men's underwear discussion ensues....

A couple months later I walked by the shop and there it was a huge eco-friendly national promotional from Crane's featuring our invites..... HAH!

Anyway the new invites will be essentially the same
(God help me if I start tweaking it again) except with the new dates:

The map I made using instructions from weddingmapper.com in Adobe Illustrator, it was time consuming but a lot of fun:

added to it the direction cards I made

mixed in the postcard reply cards:

reply postcards seemed like a great way to cut down on paper for the wedding (no envelopes) and really cute IMHO...

And then............. After completing a pretty eco-friendly invite? oh yeah? We Postponed the wedding! So this probably makes me one of the least "green" brides you can imagine.

I will be taking all the invites themselves and fashioning tops and bottoms into escort cards, so all is not lost. But I have to say....

I wasted A LOT of paper in postponing the wedding within two months of the proposed event, I had printed everything and was ready to assemble. I felt terrible for a while. But now I can laugh about it...... sort of.
